Wedding at the Zoo!
We spent many a hot summer day enjoying the Houston Zoo when our girls were little. Who knew it could be such a beautiful wedding venue, as well? The wedding had already begun when we set up the cake last night, and it was a veritable fairyland of candles, twinkle lights and gossamer tulle. Just gorgeous. This was a great, very fun couple who wanted bright, happy, fun, offbeat and unusual for their wedding cakes.
It has been about 104 degrees every day down here lately, so I was really "sweating" the survival of this stacked and tiered cake in the outdoor heat. Both cakes survived the nervous-making trip on the golf cart trailer from parking lot to reception venue, and my fingers are crossed that nothing slumped or melted by the time they cut the cake later that evening.
The groom's Louisiana Superdome cake is of chocolate, and the bottom two tiers of the topsy-turvy wedding cake are my White Princess Sour Creme. The top layer is carrot cake for the couple to freeze and save for their first anniversary.
Congratulations, y'all!

What a great idea!!! I love this wedding locale!! And I am quite certain the cakes, regardless of the heat, were DELICIOUS!!!!
I love the idea of the bright colors...the cake looks so good with all the beautiful flowers too! I told you it would be great Mom!! :)
Thanks for the wonderful story behind our cakes! The cakes were more beautiful than I could've dreamed of! We rushed over to see what they looked like after our ceremony! Sadly our top layer did not make it to our first year anniversary. We were so excited about it we ate it during our honeymoon! It was the best carrot cake ever. Thank you again so much for making our vision come to life. It was exactly the kind of whimsical, happy cake that I wanted.
Nicole!
You had me worried when you said the top layer didn't survive! I was then so relieved to read that it went into your happy tummies rather than melting into a gooey puddle of sugar on the table!
I'm SO glad you liked the cakes.
Y'all are delightful and I wish you many years of wedded bliss.
Kevin,
I have had so many compliments on the cakes. One of my friends said my cake was the epitome of what i'm like and that's it's a representation of my personality! How awesome is that! Jason posted his cake on his favorite website, The Saints Report. He's had so many comments on it! Here's the link. Thanks again so much! I can't wait to ask you to make another creation for me!
